ebay ya later

I really need to step away from the eBay.  Since moving to a small city, I use it …a lot.  The shopping in Asheville is so terrible, so completely depressing, that I find myself on eBay a lot looking at all the pretty clothes available in the rest of the world.  And I bid on them.  Just last week I bought a jacket from Hong Kong.

The problem is, I end up seeing things that catch my eye and won’t let go, but that I probably don’t need.  Kind of like in actual stores, where they set up displays on the way up to the register to lure in the impulsive consumer like myself.  Well, eBay has all these great tactics as well.

Case in point:  I just bought a Motorola Q a month ago.  I could have waited until February and gotten it for very cheap through Verizon’s “New Every Two” plan, but my compulsory need for instant gratification wouldn’t stand for that.  Instead, I had to spend countless hours vying for the perfect Smartphone on eBay.  I even got scammed - yes, me SCAMMED! - through a “second chance offer” sent to my email account.  I was so drunk on my search for a bargain that I didn’t even notice how spammy the email was.  So lo and behold, one Paulo Connova from Rome now has $130 of my hard-earned money, a scant amount of my pride, three of my salty-as-hell emails, but luckily none of my personal information.

I finally did get a legitimate deal on a Q from a legitimate dealer, and it arrived NIB as promised.  (New in box).  The problem is, it’s really not all that and a bag of chips.  Nothing to write home about.  Blahblah.  I like it - don’t get me wrong - but I’ve been waiting for 3 hours for a picture that I emailed from my Q to myself at work to arrive - and nothing.  Additionally, it takes me too damn long to figure the phone out.  My RAZR was just fine and quite simple.  What is wrong with me?

I did get a $1,000 software package for $300 once.  See - that’s what’s wrong with me - the thrill of finding a deal.

Ugh.  Oh also - I never sell anything on eBay - I just purchase.  And purchase.  And purchase.  So now I’m vowing to sell at least three items before I buy anything else.  Or at least until the Hong Kong coat arrives.  ;-)
